Abstract
V ospredje postavlja potrebe pešca in kolesarja.

Title:Developing cycling as a pillar of sustainable mobility in the city of Maribor
Abstract:
Maribor is one of the cities, where cycling is at starting developing point. Road design is more prone to development of motorized traffic. Cycling infrastructure is disjointed, incomplete and dotted. The area under consideration, which covers the area of the Maribor Tezno railway station through Trg Revolucije to the Glavni Trg, is also disconnected and unregulated. In this thesis I aim to redevelop the area in a way that supports sustainable forms of mobility, with cycling at the forefront. The latter is an important and practical form of mobility. The bicycle is often the most competitive mean of transport in terms of flexibility, in route choice and due to time efficiency. Nevertheless many short journeys in the city are still made by car. These types of journeys can be largely replaced by cycling. This would reduce traffic congestion and pressure on urban space, as cycling and cycling infrastructure itself requires much less infrastructure space. It is important that cycling and walking work closely together, are encouraged and prioritised over other forms of transport. This can make cities more sustainable and shape their public space to a human scale. In this role, cycling is better placed to achieve these objectives. It is more flexible, practical and has a better chance of replacing the car. Based on the theoretical background and the findings of the analytical part, the project presents a new design of the network of cycle paths, pedestrian routes, traffic network and spaces along these routes from the Maribor Tezno railway station through the Trg Revolucije to the Glavni Trg. It focuses on the needs of pedestrians and cyclists. Quality spaces are created in the area, representing stopping points and not just passing through, as is the case in the current situation.
