Abstract

Abstract:
The present dissertation is about the research of a cabinet with Chinese motifs, made in chinoiserie style, which is part of the permanent exhibition of the Cultural History Collection in the Celje Regional Museum. In addition to the motifs, dating and origin of the object, the dissertation focuses on its provenance - ownership or location, where the cabinet was located after it was confiscated and transferred to the Celje District Collection Center before arriving to the Celje Museum. The provenance of the cabinet which is decorated with Chinese auspicious motifs is unclear. According to the stylistic characteristics, it is placed in the second half of the 18th century. The chinoiserie style cabinet was probably made as a result of contact with the fashion of European centers and is the work of an unknown local master from the Slovenian area or from one of the neighboring countries, probably Austria or Italy. East Asian objects confiscated after the Second World War came to the Celje Regional Museum from nearby castles and manors ‒ Frankolovo, Dobrnica, Golič, Dobje and Lemberg on which the dissertation focuses due to the archival material. Determining the provenance of objects confiscated after the Second World War is difficult and problematic due to the lack of archival documentation, which is often meager, lost or non-existent. Another problem is the lack of photos of old castle environments from before 1945.
