Abstract

Title:A Model for a Kinesiological Approach to the Management of Musculoskeletal Problems
Abstract:
Musculoskeletal problems are a common subject of kinesiological assessments, however no standardised approach to treating these problems exists, which also challenges the opportunity for a holistic interdisciplinary rehabilitation. The aim was to create an integrated model of kinesiological management of subjects with musculoskeletal problems and at the same time to call for improved collaboration between rehabilitation providers. The objectives of the thesis were to define and model a kinesiological approach to the management of musculoskeletal problems, and to define and develop templates for kinesiological assessment, exercise planning and a final report, which collectively underpin a foundational framework for a minimum standard of kinesiological treatment. The thesis is a monographic work, which employs a descriptive method, using both domestic and foreign literature and the author's own reflections. Based on successful practices in other health disciplines and our own experience, we have attempted to develop a model for a kinesiological approach to the management of musculoskeletal problems. The model consists of four steps: condition assessment, exercise programme planning, exercise programme implementation and monitoring, and evaluation. Each of these steps is further detailed and explained, providing a guide for a qualitative, precise and systematic management. We have used practical examples and developed templates for the condition assessment, the exercise programme design and the final report. The model for a kinesiological approach to the management of musculoskeletal problems is intended to be a starting point for further work and development in the field of kinesiological treatment of such problems.
