Non-governmental organizations are becoming increasingly active in various societal domains, where their activities contribute to solving pressing issues. In the year 2021, non-governmental organizations employed 12,561 workers in Slovenia. The challenge of such a low percentage of employees in the non-governmental sector, considering the number of all active non-governmental organizations, is certainly acquiring financial resources to afford these employees in the first place.
Non-governmental organizations can secure financial resources in various ways, depending on their size, status, the activities they engage in, their knowledge of financing.
The thesis consists of a theoretical part followed by an empirical section, using descriptive and compilation methods. The entire work is divided into 8 chapters, describing non-governmental organizations and the forms in which they appear, along with their key characteristics. It touches upon legislation and employment in the field of non-governmental organizations, and elaborates on the ways of financing these organizations.
Throughout the work, we focused on two selected associations and through the presentation of basic data and financial performance, gained an insight into how organizations can be funded and how obtaining funds in a certain way can influence favourable financial outcomes.
In the empirical part, we compared the financial operations of two selected non-governmental organizations in the years 2020 and 2021 based on data obtained from various sources. The goal of the theoretical part is to generally present non-governmental organizations and the challenges of resource acquisition for Slovenian non-governmental organizations using the descriptive method. The aim of the empirical part is to quantitatively compare the finances of an organization that operates on a broader, international level and an organization that operates solely locally, and determine whether the differences in financial operations are substantial.
