Abstract

Title:Water quality analysis of the Hudinja river
Abstract:
The Hudinja rises in the southern part of Pohorje and is part of the Savinja river basin, which is a sub-basin of the Sava river. Its catchment area extends over eleven municipalities. Downstream, it receives a large amount of sewage from households and industry, as well as pollution from leaching from agricultural land, which has a significant impact on its water quality. In my thesis I analysed the results of measurements carried out by the Slovenian Environment Agency for selected parameters reflecting the quality of the watercourse. The measurements have been carried out at two monitoring sites since 2007 and show that the water quality of the Hudinja River has not changed significantly over time, while at the same time it is deteriorating due to downstream pressures. Sulphate is an important parameter, with values well above the expected natural background levels, most likely due to industrial effluents.
