Abstract

Title:The state and challenges of digital nomadism in Slovenia and selected countries
Abstract:
In this master thesis, we discuss the state of digital nomadism and the related challenges in the Republic of Slovenia as well as in selected countries, namely Croatia, Portugal, Italy and Estonia. We conclude that in Slovenia, there are many gaps in the regulation of digital nomadism and thus many opportunities for improvement to attract digital nomads. A key shortcoming is the absence of a proper visa for digital nomads, which is expected to be introduced by 2030. Another important shortcoming is the lack of tax incentives for digital nomads. Following the example of Croatia, Italy and Estonia, it would make sense to introduce a single portal for digital nomads, which would gather all the necessary information on how to enter, live and work in Slovenia. The portal would be a first step in promoting Slovenia as a digital nomad-friendly country, subject of course to the introduction of appropriate visa and tax incentives. Then the Slovenian Tourist Board could also consider digital nomads as a separate target group. A comparison with the state of digital nomadism in the other selected countries shows that Slovenia is lagging behind them in all areas. The preparation of a concrete strategy and its implementation will require mutual cooperation of all actors, namely decision-makers or policy-makers, digital nomads, Slovenia's representatives abroad and the Slovenian Tourist Board.
