Abstract

Title:Where are those pathways? Conceptual design of Radensko polje Nature park Visitor centre and circular nature trail
Abstract:
At first glance, Radensko Polje appears as a modest karst field near Grosuplje. However, upon closer inspection, this natural landscape unveils its hidden wonders: waters and floods that cyclically transform the terrain, sinkholes leading to a complex system of caves, as well as rare species of plants and animals. In the theoretical-analytical part, the master's thesis examines Radensko Polje as a natural value that needs to be protected, highlighting the issues crucial for the conservation of this natural environment. Through this, the idea of measures is formed to contribute to emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the discussed area, potentially leading to a reinforcement of strained relationships between local farmers and the landscape park management. The synthesis of the theoretical-analytical section dictates further directions for the design process. The arrangement of a circular educational trail on Radensko Polje enables visitors to educate themselves about what they see and encourages them to participate in environmental conservation. Along the trail, there are points of intervention that represent interesting stops where visitors can pause and observe nature. The proposed sustainably designed buildings of Radensko polje Nature park Visitor centre subtly fit into the existing village of Zagradec pri Grosuplje and co-shape the village space - the square, which forms the new village centre of an otherwise urbanistically underdeveloped village. The buildings connect cultural, social, and educational (nature conservation) content, intended for both local residents and tourists. The village becomes the main northern starting point for hikes across Radensko Polje.
