Abstract

Title:Quasi static method for evaluation of seismic forces effect on slope stability : diploma work
Abstract:
My diploma thesis constitutes of conditions and causes for slope instability and main types of slope failure regarding (or considering) the influence of seismic effect. Furthermore, the Fellenius and Bishop method of equilibrium balance are presented as is their practical use for determining slope stability in Excel and program Slide. The main emphasis of the thesis is to introduce Sarma method. This is a quasi-static method also based on determining equilibrium balance; however, can be used for any form of sliding surface by considering seismic forces. In the continuation, the methods are used to analyse slope stability on an illustration of a slope partially under water. Moreover, an example is used to show the effect of seismic forces on the decrease of slope stability. As the factor of safety becomes insufficient taking into account the seismic forces in slope analysis, a proposal for the realignment/rearrangement of the slope in accordance with the current European Standard EC8 is shown.
