Abstract

Title:Optimizing machining times with trochoidal milling
Abstract:
The thesis presents a comparison between the use of trochoid CNC milling and conventional CNC milling. In the thesis we aim to achieve shortest possible machining times. The comparison is made on a workpiece made of stainless steel 1.4404. The thesis presents the theoretical foundations of machining, equipment used in the experiment, presentation of cutting tools and description of workpiece material. The thesis is based on an experiment, that was the main part of our research. In the experiment, we compared both machining methods by manufacturing a product from our production using both approaches. During the process, we carefully monitored machining times and tool wear. In the end of the experiment, we compared actual machining times of both methods and conducted cost analysis. We demonstrated that, in our case, trochoidal milling was faster and more cost-effective than the conventional method, and that the tool wear was visibly lower when we used trochoidal milling.
