Telegraphy is a form of communication that involves transmitting written messages through telegraphic devices. A telegraph is a device that receives or transmits messages. Typically, it is an electrical device that transmits messages using electrical impulses and delivers them to the communicator in the form of codes, which are then translated and interpreted to understand the meaning of the message. In the following sections, we will discuss various forms of telegraphy and the telegraphic systems that are known. We will focus on the most renowned pioneers of electric telegraphy in the 19th century. The second part of the thesis will address the socio- economic impacts brought about by this new technological form. I will examine the societal response and the extent to which the telegraph contributed to the industrialization of the world. The work will conclude with the decline of telegraphic communication and the state of telegraphy in Slovenia.
