Abstract

Title:Development dynamics of stands in the forest reserve Veliki Bršljanovec
Abstract:
The thesis estimates the development dynamics in the forest reserve Veliki Bršljanovec in the area of Hrušica. In the year 1996, fifteen permanent sampling plots of the size of 500 square metres on a 100 m x 100 m systematic grid were established. Fieldwork took place in 2015 and 2023. The sleet as well as the gradation of bark beetles caused the decay of many trees. Thus in 2015 the decayed trees presented 27% of all trees on the permanent sampling plots. In the year 2023 the number increased to one third of all trees. Sleet damaged 36% of spruce trees, 60% of beech trees and 8% of fir trees in the sample of the estimated living trees. Until the year 2023, the share of spruce decreased to 46%, the share of fir remained 16% but the share of beech increased to 35%. Permanent sampling plots in the reserve proved the predomination of spruce with 57% of growing stock. It was followed by fir with 33% and beech with 8%. The average growing stock decreased to 458,2 m3 per hectare. The growing stock of the dead trees was estimated at 236,9 m3 per hectare or 34% of the total growing stock. Silver fir trees have the largest diameter in the reserve. 29% of fir trees in the plots have a diameter of more than 50 cm.
