Abstract

Title:THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BALTIC-ADRIATIC CORRIDOR FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS ACTIVITIES IN SLOVENIA
Abstract:
Transport has always been an important socio-econoimic activity, which has grown significantly in recent decades. This has no doubt led to increased environmental pollution, whereas safety and timely delivery of goods from one place to another has been questionable. As a result, the company is looking for various alternatives that would mitigate all these risks. The European Union sees a solution within the construction of the pan-European transport network (TEN-T), which is supposed to connect road, rail, air and maritime transport networks throughout the European Union. The network includes corridors that also extend into the future member states of the European Union. It is important for every country to be connected to the corridor since the latter allows a much faster development of transportationsystems. The Mediterranean and the Baltic-Adriatic Corridors pass through Slovenia, and as a result, it is crucial to arange adequate road and rail connections in the area. A special role is played by the Baltic-Adriatic corridor, which is not only of interest to the Port of Koper, but also to the neighbouring port of Trieste, and the axis continues towards Central Europe. In the herewith diploma work, it was established that after the financial crisis of 2007, the traffic increase again. In order for Slovenia to remain competitive in transport, it must invest in railway and road infrastructure, to be able to keep up with the growing flow of goods from/to the markets of Central Europe.
