This master's thesis examines the frequent name changes of three important German newspapers Marburger Zeitung (Maribor, 1862–1945), Cillier Zeitung (Celje, 1876–1937), and Pettauer Zeitung (Ptuj, 1889–1904), which advocated for German interests in Lower Styria. The reasons for these name changes were both national and political. Furthermore, the positions taken by these German newspapers in connection with their name changes are also presented in detail. Special attention is also given to the reactions of important Slovene newspapers in Lower Styria to the renaming of their German „competitors”.
