The master's thesis is a research of folklore about water in Prlekija. Beliefs are implied in narratives and practices. It is based on field research in the area of Prlekija, where conversations were held with co-speakers. Comparatively, it includes pre-existing literature on the subject that was recorded until today. It describes places or individual villages where the research was conducted, as well as the waters that are located in these areas and were discussed with the co-speakers. The emphasis is on the genre legend, stories about fairy-tale creatures stand out. A large share of field research material is represented by belief stories, where water plays the main role. The master's thesis also includes a discussion about mythologizing waters in Prlekija in novels by various authors, and it also includes the tourism promotion of individual waters in Prlekija and how this affects the identity of the place and the locals.
