In my qualitative thesis titled Prevention of sexual violence of preschool children in kindergartens, I
investigate what kind of prevention of sexual violence is provided and in what ways it is offered to
preschool children in kindergartens. Kindergarten is supposed to be an institution where children are
safe and where proper education is taken care of, but it is still a place where sexual violence can quickly
occur if there is a lack of awareness about this important topic. In my thesis, I first present the
characteristics of sexual abuse, potential perpetrators of sexual violence against children, present sexual
violence according to gender, and also raise awareness of sexually violent behavior among children. I
describe the experience of sexual violence by children and also by parents and the signs that warn that
a child is a victim of sexual violence. I explain the importance of preventing sexual violence and the
ways to prevent it. I spoke with kindergarten teachers about the prevention of sexual violence in
kindergarten and the awareness of children, parents, and kindergarten teachers, and I also conducted
covert observation with participation, where I observed what was happening in the kindergarten.
