Abstract

Title:Analysis of Joule - Thomson effect with hydrogen
Abstract:
In this work, we discussed the Joule-Thomson phenomenon in hydrogen. Using the GERG 2008 equation of state, we analyzed the influence of hydrogen's negative Joule-Thomson coefficient on the state after compression or expansion of pure hydrogen and a mixture of mehane and hydrogen. Whether heating or cooling occurs in an isenthalpic change of state depends on the positive or negative sign of the Joule-Thomson coefficient in the considered region of states. Comparing our calculated states using the GERG 2008 equation of state with literature values calculated using simpler equations of state shows significant differences and justifies the use of the GERG 2008 equation of state.
