Abstract

Title:Traffic analysis in Ljubljana and the impact of increased use and better regulation of public transportation on its optimization
Abstract:
The topic of the thesis is the issue of excessive use of personal vehicles in urban areas, resulting in significant traffic congestion and environmental pollution. The aim of the thesis is to determine how increased usage of public transportation would impact traffic optimization on Tržaška Street in Ljubljana. Various quantitative methods were used, such as descriptive statistical analyses, statistical tests, surveys, and computer traffic simulation. Based on public opinion obtained through a questionnaire, an analysis of the current use of public transportation was initially conducted. The questionnaire results revealed that the majority of city residents are willing to use public transportation, provided that its quality and accessibility are improved. The opinions of two groups of respondents, namely those who utilize public transportation and those who do not, were statistically different but still exhibited similarities. The traffic simulation conducted unveiled that increased utilization of public transportation would have a positive impact on travel time along Tržaška Street in Ljubljana. Furthermore, it was determined that the current traffic signal cycle being used is outdated and should be optimized to accommodate higher traffic volumes. The results of the thesis are significant as they contribute to the development of effective solutions for enhancing public transportation, traffic infrastructure, and associated policies. Additionally, it aids in the formulation of measures to improve traffic efficiency at the local, regional, and national levels. The work also serves as a foundation for further research in the field of traffic engineering.
