Abstract

Title:Removal of persistent antibiotic gentamicin sulphate from model wastewater by ozonation
Abstract:
Through usage, a large part of pharmaceutical substances passes into wastewater, which is cleaned in municipal sewage treatment plants, which are not suitable for the effective removal of these substances. Thus, the pharmaceuticals then accumulate in the environment, where they can damage organisms and cause other unwanted effects. Therefore, new procedures are being investigated for the removal of these substances in wastewater. Advanced oxidation processes have proven to be very effective. In this thesis we focused on the use of ozonation for the removal of the widely used and difficult to degrade antibiotic gentamicin sulfate. We compared the efficiency of antibiotic removal from model and real wastewater at different ozonation parameters. The results of the experiments show that gentamicin sulfate is efficiently removed by ozonation at higher pH levels.
