Products made from plastic materials are commonly used in automotive industry because of their positive mechanical characteristics, low weight and economical availability. Because of ever increasing functional requirements parts are becoming more and more complex and so is the process of their development and design. That is why it is crucial to use the methods of design for manufacturing and assembly and concurrent engineering. For effective development of a product it is vital to integrate in the early stages the knowledge and experience from all of the departments who are part of the development and production process.
Objective of this thesis is to develop a guideline for plastic part design. It is based on the know-how of the company which includes detailed instructions with examples, as well as system of control points. That enables the designer to include previously acquired knowledge by production engineers and experts from various fields in the early stages of the development process. This way the development process is shorter, more resistant to errors and cheaper.
In addition to that the development process of an exemplary part with help of the new guideline will be demonstrated.
