Abstract

Title:Laser welding of electrical contacts
Abstract:
In the industry, various techniques for joining copper alloys are increasingly being developed, and one of these is laser welding. This thesis is based on determining whether laser welding is a suitable method for joining copper surfaces and whether it can replace the existing soldering method. The thesis focuses on laser welding of copper surfaces in the rotor of an electric motor, which was performed using a fiber laser. The optimal welding parameters for the laser machine were obtained, and both visual inspection of the weld joints and depth of penetration control were conducted. The achieved penetration depth for the first combination of welding parameters was 481 µm, and for the second combination, it was 368 µm. The laser welding parameters for the first combination were: maximum pulse power: 6 kW, pulse duration: 6 ms, pulse frequency: 10 Hz. For the second combination: maximum pulse power: 5 kW, pulse duration: 10 ms, pulse frequency: 10 Hz.

Keywords:laser welding, copper and copper alloys, weldability of copper alloys, soldering, fiber laser, laser parameters, visual testing of welds, penetration depth
