Student work plays a crucial role in entering the job market. It provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, skills, and competencies. Through student work, students can become familiar with employers, the job market, and various fields of work, as well as establish valuable connections and references that can lead to their first job after graduation. Regardless of whether the student work is related to their field of study or not, these experiences are valuable, as recognized by the surveyed individuals who agreed that their student work had helped them secure their first job. In my Master's thesis, I focus on the advantages and disadvantages of student work for both students and employers. Using a survey that includes former students who have completed student work during their studies, I examine and analyse the importance of work experience gained through student work in securing the first job, and the types of experiences gained. As there are many different types of student work available today, it is primarily up to the individual to decide how much they will gain from them. Therefore, it is crucial that individuals recognize the importance of student work and make a thoughtful decision with clear objectives in mind. By doing so, they can gain valuable experience and improve their chances of successfully entering the job market.
