The diploma thesis addresses the use and semantic nuances of individual resultative complements in Chinese. The first part is theoretical and includes definitions from various
authors. In the second part, based on the theoretical foundation, one possible categorization of resultative complements is presented. Three categories are elaborated in detail. These categories are established based on the semantic nuance that specific complements add to
the verb they follow. Within each category, three resultative complements are highlighted, which have a similar basic meaning. The usage and meaning of each complement are explained first in theory, and then in the third part, their actual usage in texts is examined
using a web corpus. The third part specifically presents each category, and within each category, each complement is analyzed in detail. Initially, twenty verbs are collected for each complement, which are most commonly associated with the complement. This is followed by example sentences from the corpus that contain the selected complements and verbs with which all three or at least two of the complements are frequently associated. Based on the examples of usage and their translations, a comparison of the meanings and usage of individual complements within each category is included in the thesis.
