The problem of how to Slovenise Ancient Greek and Latin names has long particularities, diverging traditions and the lack of agreement of classical scholars both among themselves and with Slovene language experts, no uniform rules for the Slovenisation of these names have yet been formulated, not even in the seminal reference book on Slovene Orthography (2001). The first part of the paper outlines a historical survey of the approaches to the Slovenisation of classical names, while the second part, based on practical examples cited in the orthography, evaluates some of the existing rules from a philological perspective.
