Abstract

Title:The Operation of Women's Networks in Serbia before World War I. Through the Analysis of Two Women's Newspapers: »Domaćica« and »Ženski svet«
Abstract:
In the period before the First World War, the legal and material position of women in the Principality, later in the Kingdom of Serbia and Vojvodina, was largely dependent on men, but at the same time there were small but important shifts to redirect attention to greater equality of women based on formation of numerous women's networks, associations, and movements. The functioning of women's networks is evidenced by the first women's newspapers of the time, which contain information about society's attitude to feminism and feminist thought, the social position of women, stereotypes related to women, etc. In my master's thesis, I will focus on the similarities and differences in the functioning of women's networks through the analysis of two local newspapers; Domaćica, which was published between 1879 and 1941 within the framework of the activities of the Belgrade Women's Association in the Principality/Kingdom of Serbia, and Ženski svet, which was published between 1886 and 1914 within the framework of the activities in Charitable Association of the Serbian women and Novi Sad in Vojvodina.
