Accessibility to psychiatric and psychotherapeutic services is of essential significance for strengthening mental health which is one of the key conditions for a quality life of an individual. The thesis aims to determine whether mental disorders are on the rise in Slovenia. What is the accessibility to psychiatric and psychotherapeutic services in Slovenia? I was ascertaining a trend in which the demand or the need for the services of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists fluctuates in comparison to the availability and resources intended for the aforementioned services in public healthcare. I also researched how much budgetary resources the state of Slovenia allocates for programs to strengthen mental health. The task is based on the analysis of secondary sources. It was ascertained that the number of people with mental disorders in Slovenia is decreasing. The data on the number of issued prescriptions for antidepressants show the exact opposite, i.e. an increasing trend in the prescription and consumption of antidepressants. This can be attributed mainly to the emergence of the COVID-19 epidemic because due to the measures related to it, fewer individuals came into contact with experts in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy than they would have otherwise. Despite the increase in the number of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists, we still have long waiting times in Slovenia. This is particularly worrisome given the fact that every year in Slovenia, the state allocates more budget funds for programs to strengthen mental health. The problem with accessibility to psychotherapy services is also that the aforementioned area is not regulated by law.
