The thesis Transfer of Bovec sheep wool family knowledge into fashion collection describes the development and implementation of a specific fashion collection. The idea originates in my grandparents' farm near Bovec, where they raised sheep. In addition to the original idea of exploring the waste wool from the Bovec sheep, the concept was expanded to explore other types of wool from Slovenia offered on the market (wool from the Soven company and Jezersko-Solčava wool from the Bicke association). The main starting point for the silhouettes comes from the photo archive of my grandma.
The theoretical part introduces biodegradable materials; what these materials are, the process of biodegradation and the decomposition rate of certain materials. Wool is then introduced: its properties, its uses, and wool as waste. Wool in Slovenia is described in more detail. Felting of wool is introduced in the last chapter: what is felt, how it is obtained also the history of felting. The processes of preparing wool for felting, dry and wet felting are described more thoroughly. Finally, the thesis introduces the designers who use or have used the felting technique in their collections.
The practical part involves researching, designing and making a collection based on wool felting, crochet and knitting. The collection consists of nine silhouettes, four of which have been realized. First, the idea and the concept of the collection are presented. The target group, the patterns and the colour palette of the materials are then presented as well as the technological processes used and the development of the collection. This is followed by a presentation of the fashion sketches of the collection, the design of the realized silhouettes and, finally, a photograph of the final collection.
