Abstract
Podatke o onesnaženosti zraka držav Evropske unije zbira Evropska agencija za okolje (EEA) in so vsem prosto dostopni. Dostopni so preko spletne strani agencije, kjer so shranjeni v zelo kompleksnem formatu XML, ki ga je težko razčleniti. V sklopu diplomskega dela smo razvili aplikacije za zbiranje in prikaz podatkov o kakovosti zraka v Evropi. Cilj je bil izboljšava trenutne rešitve EEA, ki bi omogočala dostop do podatkov na hitrejši in bolj učinkovit način. Izvedli smo tudi analizo trenutne strukture podatkovne baze EEA in predlagali izboljšano strukturo. Pri razvoju aplikacije sta nastali dve verziji, ki se razlikujeta predvsem pri viru pridobivanih podatkov. Poleg hitrejšega in bolj prožnega pridobivanja podatkov, aplikacija omogoča tudi enostavno vizualizacijo podatkov. S pomočjo naše aplikacije bodo raziskovalci kakovosti zraka lažje dostopali do velike količine podatkov, kar bo omogočalo opravljanje bolj obširnih raziskav.

Title:Application for collection and visualization of air quality data in Europe
Abstract:
The European Environment Agency (EEA) collects air quality data for European Union countries, and makes this data publicly available through a website. However, the data is presented in a complex and difficult to read XML format. In this thesis, we present an application that improves upon the existing solution provided by the EEA for accessing air quality data in Europe. Our goal was to make it faster and more efficient to access this data. Additionally, we analyzed the EEA’s current database schema and proposed an improved schema. We developed two versions of our application, which primarily differ in their data collection source. Our application provides simple visualizations of collected data, in addition to being faster and more efficient. By using our application, researchers will have easier access to a large amount of data, which will enable them to conduct more extensive research.
