Abstract

Title:A new chapter in the life of a city - a new city library in Ljubljana
Abstract:
The task redefines the role of the library in the 21st century and the role of the city library in Ljubljana’s public space. The existing Oton Župančič library, located in the arcade of the Evropa palace, serves as the basis for creating a new central library in the city center. The new library blurs the boundary between the building and the city. It expands its program to the entire city block, which it understands as the area of the new library. It sees the city block as the fundamental building element of the city. Often an ignored space, it is transformed through interventions in the existing urban tissue and with new additions into an open, passable, and city-forming public space, thus restoring the area’s lost spatial identity.
