Abstract

Title:Introducing the Pakabo Game into Kindergarten
Abstract:
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is becoming an increasingly important part of pre-school children's lives. Despite our best efforts to prevent it, life has recently forced us to let even our youngest children use phones, tablets or even computers to keep in touch with their friends. However, since we also encourage development of the child in kindergarten, this area should no longer be neglected. Children need to be introduced to the world of computers in adjusted and personalised way. In the beginning of the diploma work we described the development of children's play, what influences it, when and how their understanding of didactic games emerges. We have concluded a deep analysis of the development of the child's motor characteristics which includes both gross and fine motor skills and, finally, graphomotor skills. In kindergarten, children also experience the use of ICT, which is why we decided to present our computer game Pakabo in the Šentvid kindergarten. The empirical part presents the results of the children's reaction to the game, their ability to handle it and, of course, their success. We successfully tested the game in three age groups. At the end, all the children were given a worksheet covering the graphomotor tasks. The results were analysed according to the children’s age. Finally, the questionnaires were given to the teachers and parents, asking their opinion on introducing this type of games in kindergarten. We received very different opinions from both educators and parents. The majority agreed that such play should be limited and only available if it has another higher goal. As stated in the literature, a computer game should not be merely a pass time activity.
