The following thesis discusses road traffic and its impact on air pollution with particles. Road vehicles emit various pollutants into the air during transport. This thesis describes the types of particles emitted by vehicles, and their impact on human health and the environment, focusing on PM10 and PM2.5 particles. Furthermore, the characteristics of internal combustion engines are described and compared with alternative types of fuels. We also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of diesel and gasoline engines and present the air pollution statistics by year in Slovenia and Europe. As a solution to the current problems, we focus on laws and regulations that ensure the reduction of air pollution with particles.
