Abstract

Title:Proposal for the reconstruction of salt-fields at Fontanigge
Abstract:
The master's thesis deals with the question of the possible compatibility of salt production and nature conservation in the southern part of the Sečovlje salt pans, called Fontanigge. It is an area with a more than 700-year tradition of salt production in the medieval way, which was abandoned in the 1960s. In the 1990s, two salt fields were reconstructed with the establishment of the Museum of Salt Making, the traces of one have already been erased, while the structures of the other are still legible. The task therefore examines the origin and evolution of Fontanigge area, its structure and operation, as well as the documents that prescribe regimes for the protection of cultural heritage and nature conservation in this area. Based on data of the current state of conservation of salt funds and nature conservation monitoring, the task shows the process of creating a suitability map, which defines the suitability of each individual salt field for reconstruction. On the basis of the suitability map, two versions of the possible course of the reconstruction of the salt fields are shown. In the end, a proposal plan for the arrangement of the area after the reconstruction is given, which shows that the compatibility of salt production and nature conservation in the southern part of the Sečovlje salt pans is possible and necessary, for the sake of the protection of cultural as well as natural heritage.
