Abstract

Title:Reconstruct the experience, recycle the memory! - Conceptual design for the revitalization ofHaasberg manor near the village of Planina
Abstract:
Burned down during the Second World War, Haasberg, despite sharing its fate with many Slovenian castles, is no ordinary ruin. Although post-war conservation efforts did not manage to save the building from collapse, they left us with an extensive collection of architectural photographs, which allow us to read the spatial and ambient qualities of one of the most important baroque castles in Slovenia. This master’s thesis deals with the question of how to approach the revitalization, rehabilitation and presentation of the ruins of a building of exceptional cultural value. It investigates and presents the condition of the castle before and after the demolition, and develops an approach to the rehabilitation and presentation of the ruins based on the discovered qualities and new program requirements.
