Many art works depict refugees and arouse empathy in the viewers. For that purpose, a review of important migrations throughout history was made, along with their depictions by different generations of artists and techniques of artistic expression. Through pictures and photodocumentaries in the era of slavery and migrations to North America, I move towards the First and Second World Wars and the great depression. I also deal with the migration of Afroamericans to the northern parts of the USA, installations, documentaries, and the Russian-Ukrainian war in the modern era. Through different artworks, the consequences of war on refugees are shown. I filmed a short documentary to display the refugees’ experience of war in their country. With individual interviews, I want to reach the emotional response in the viewers instead of the rational when viewing the affected mass. At the same time, I am also aware that the modern ways of depicting refugees are based on their past representations. Their experience and troubles in the documentary are not something new. The images of refugees from the past convey similar theme, the only difference is time.
