The degree paper is mainly focused on the comprehensibility of the sermons of the baroque Jesuit preacher Jernej Basar and the sermons of the Dravlje Jesuit priest Fr. Primož Jakop. In doing so, we use the seven criteria of comprehensibility introduced by Ina Ferbežar; Comprehension tracking, lexical simplicity, syntactic simplicity, conciseness, linguistic correctness, communicativeness and coherence. The opening chapter is discussing the concepts of understanding and intelligibility, followed by a presentation of the seven criteria. In the following, we talk about sermons as a literary genre with an emphasis on baroque sermons and Jesuit rhetoric. The task then focuses on the analysis of the comprehensibility of the selected sermons of Jerne Basar and Primož Jakop, in which an assessment of each criterion is made separately. In the conclusion, a comparison of the comprehensibility of the sermons is given.
