The Master's thesis addresses the very specific position that self-employed persons in the field of culture hold in the social security system in Slovenia. The thesis is divided in four sections. In its first part the thesis presents the meaning and the legal situation of self-employed persons in the field of culture within the Slovenian legal system.
In its second part the thesis comprises an analysis of social insurances and presents the legal status of self-employed persons in the field of culture within four branches of mandatory insurance: health insurance, pension and disability insurance, parental protection insurance and unemployment insurance.
The third part analyses the position of self-employed persons in the field of culture within the Slovenian cultural market, the legislation, culture itself and the habits that form the cultural market and impact the employment patterns.
The fourth and final part of the research is concerned with the question whether the basic purpose of social security, i.e. the provision of appropriate cash benefits and benefits in kind aimed either at substituting for one’s lost income and lowering their living costs or at preventing poverty and social exclusion, is achieved in the case of self-employed persons in the field of culture.
