Abstract
Pričujoče magistrsko delo primerjalno obravnava pojav posamostaljenja oziroma substantivizacije v slovenskem in ruskem jeziku in preverja načine prevajanja posamostaljenih pridevnikov in deležnikov iz izvirnih ruskih besedil v slovenščino.

Title:Substantivization of adjectives: Slovene-Russian contrastive linguistics
Abstract:
This master’s thesis comparatively discusses the phenomenon of substantivization in Slovene and Russian languages and researches the methods of translating substantivized adjectives and participles from original texts in Russian to Slovene language. Substantivization is a distinctive process in all Slavic languages. It is defined as a conversion of one part of speech to another in the morphology field; furthermore, it is defined as a productive way of forming nouns with adjective declension within word formation in Russian linguistics. In Slovene language, adjectives, and additionally participles in Russian, are a subject of substantivization in most cases. The theoretical part of this thesis presents the findings and existing researches in the field of substantivization in Russian and Slovene linguistics, describes historical basis for occurrence of substantivized adjectives in Slavic languages, and also represents typologies of substantivized adjectives (and participles in Russian) in Slovene as well as Russian language. The work compares semantic groups of substantivized adjectives in both languages. The empirical part of the thesis presents an analysis of translating substantivized adjectives and participles that denote persons, namely from Russian source to Slovene language, with which we wanted to establish the relation of practical use of substantivized adjectives and participles in both languages and the methods of translating them.
