The Master’s Thesis deals with the meaning and usefulness of temporary urban changes in open public space. The advantages of temporary developments are mainly that they are time-limited, easy to implement and financially inexpensive. The assignment explores selected examples and types of temporary urban changes, ways of incorporation plant material and approaches to the design of temporary urban changes. The main method of work and the objective of the thesis is the design and implementation of a temporary urban change in the town square Mestni trg in Metlika. Based on a review of sources, five steps from idea to implementation are developed for the design of a temporary urban changes in Metlika's Town Square, called PARKing PLAC. Mestni trg is currently not pedestrian friendly, as most of the square is occupied by a car park, while there is not a single seating area in the space. The municipality has already made plans for the renovation of the Mestni trg, but this has not yet happened due to a lack of funds. The temporary urban change PARKING PLAC includes the installation of urban furniture - two benches with planters and plants - in the area of the three parking spaces, as well as floor painting. The project will make the space more people-friendly now, while the renovation is pending.
