Bitnje is a long roadside village, which lies on the edge of Kranjsko-Sorško field in the Gorenjska region. From the first mention of its formation, the village has been expanded, which consequently reduced surrounding meadows and forests. Today, there are farms and houses on the west side of the Kranj – Škofja Loka road, whereas on the east side of the Kranj – Škofja Loka road, the farms have their corresponding land, which is line shaped (in the form of stripes) since 1501. There are several properties in Bitnje, which have the status of immovable cultural herritage. Bitnje is protected by NATURA 2000 from one side, which ensures it can not be further expanded; on the other side there is Kranjsko-Sorško field, which is used as agricultural area. Part of the Bitnje area is defined as the Cultural Landscape of Bitnje, entered in the Register of the Cultural Heritage, so it is especially important necessary to preserve all the protected areas.
