Abstract

Title:Borehole drilling with the overburden technique and casing of borehole : diploma work
Abstract:
For extracting oil, natural gas, drinking water, for utilizing geothermal energy and for the needs of construction work we need to drill boreholes through Earth’s surface. While drilling, we encounter different types of soil. When we are met with unconsolidated materials such as gravel, sand, mosh and clay, drilling with conventional methods can be very complicated or even impossible. From the need to drill efficient boreholes in unconsolidated materials, the idea of drilling with the overburden technique was created. Nowadays the overburden technique is used in hydrogeology, construction works and in the field of geothermal energy. The purpose of this diploma work is to present all drilling methods of overburden technology, along with their advantages and disadvantages. In the first part of the diploma work, the conventional methods are presented. The emphasis is on the second part of the diploma work, where all methods of drilling with overburden technique are presented. Each individual method has its own drilling equipment. I have presented the Odex equipment, which is used in rotary percussive eccentric drilling. Also, I have presented new developments in the field of drilling and drilling with the overburden technique. I have also described why drilling with the overburden technique is more effective than drilling with conventional methods, when we drill in unconsolidated ground.
