Abstract
Magistrsko delo temelji na korpusnem gradivu za tri medije iz Velike Britanije – The Guardian, The Telegraph in Daily Mirror ter za tri slovenske medije – RTV SLO, 24 UR in Delo.

Title:Migration coverage in Slovene and British online media: Corpus comparison of the vocabulary in analysed articles
Abstract:
This thesis investigates whether it is possible to determine positive or negative tendencies in the Slovene and British media towards the European migrant crisis based on corpus material. The theoretical part discusses some basic terms and theoretical background on the topic of migration, provides basic terminology on corpus linguistics and corpus building, as well as some information about the programme Sketch Engine, which was used to perform the analysis of the corpus data. In addition, it outlines the European migrant crisis, focusing on the situation in Slovenia and the ways the country was affected by the crisis. The analysis was conducted on corpus data consisting of articles published in three British news media outlets: The Guardian, The Telegraph and Daily Mirror, and three Slovene news media outlets: RTV SLO, 24 UR, and Delo. The corpus only holds articles that were, at the time of corpus creation available online, any article appearing in print was, therefore, not taken into account. Additionally, the articles had to be published from September to October of 2015, 2016 or 2019. The empirical part presents the migrant-related vocabulary differences which culturally, geographically and politically reflect the differences between Slovenia and the United Kingdom. The analysis also shows that more emotional vocabulary was used in the British data than in the Slovene data.
