When building a new barn for dairy cows and young cattle, it is important to follow the standards and norms to provide a bright, airy and comfortable living space for the animals and to facilitate and ensure the farmers’ work. The barn must be designed so that the animals can rest and move as comfortably as possible and have the opportunity to act out their natural behaviours. Based on an in-depth study, different housing systems for dairy cattle and young animals, modern technologies, automation, and robotic systems have been described to help cattle farmers and increase their efficiency. The second part of the thesis presents the concept of building a new barn for dairy cows on the Toman family farm, as the existing barn is overcrowded and poorly ventilated. The new barn will provide more comfort for the dairy cows and allow the increase of the herd size. In the new barn, milking will be done with a milking robot. The barn will have space for 60 dairy cows, dry cows and calves up to two months old. In the new barn we will provide space for storage of sawdust and straw for bedding and hay for feeding. The old barn will be renovated to accommodate other breeding animals, for which 44 cubicles of appropriate dimensions will be provided, depending on the age of the animals. In addition to the new barn, the construction of additional silos for the storage of feed and a warehouse for agricultural machinery is planned.
