Abstract

Title:Comparison of formal and informal music education system in Slovenia
Abstract:
Slovenia offers a wide array of formal and informal music education programs for individuals to take part in. Formal music education institutions, such as public music schools, conservatory of music and music academy, represent the only way to attain formal music education, which makes it easier for an individual to pursue a career as a musical performer or educator. On the other hand, anybody can enrol in informal music education, as long as they want to learn some music knowledge and are willing to pay a higher price. In this thesis I gained insight into music education in Slovenia, using interview as the method of my research. The sample consisted of individuals who, during their lifetime, participated in any form of music education. I portrayed the structure of formal and informal music education and outlined its content, in a way of theoretical and practical musical knowledge that is being conveyed to students. In addition to this, I gained an understanding of students impressions regarding their education, including advantages and weaknesses they themselves recalled.
