In my thesis I will present the topic of public institutions. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the
functioning of non-profit organisations in the field of culture - more specifically public cultural
institutes. In the first part of the thesis, I introduce the theoretical facts, concepts and definition
of non-profit organisations. Then, the thesis focuses on public institutes, their establishment,
operations, financing and organisational structures and their tasks and jurisdictions.
In the second part of the thesis, the knowledge about public institutes will be illustrated through
the model of the Pionirski dom – Center za kulturo mladih. I conclude that, like any organisation
or type of organisations, Pionirski dom faces governance challenges. I will try to identify these
shortcomings on the basis of the SWOT analysis that has been carried out in this institution. I
will then make possible suggestions for improvement based on these findings.
I chose the topic of public institutes because I want to see the development of the non-profit
sector in general. The non-profit sector is of great importance in the provision of public goods
and services that are essential for the development of society. In the hope of producing as many
professional works on the non-profit sector as possible, I hope that my thesis will also contribute
to a broader understanding of non-profit organisations and the challenges they face.
