Abstract

Title:
Protecting the Logarska dolina Landscape Park in the Face of Alterations to the Cultural Landscape
Abstract:
Conservation institutions often understand cultural landscapes as nature that has been transformed by humans, but the time of accelerated environmental changes in which we live also dictates a different view: that non-human factors (e.g., the weather phenomena, such as windbreaks, drought, biotic changes) influence what activity a person will engage in and how he/she will manage his/her environment. The master's thesis focuses on the non-human environmental factors that influence practices and activities of the population in the Logarska dolina landscape park. It explores if any of them have changed as a result of environmental changes. Above all, it sheds light on the importance of incorporating the unpredictable non-human factors that direct the way of life of those who live in the park into the landscape protection system. It tries to unfold what the Logarska dolina landscape park is supposed to look like according to the competent conservation institutions and how the unpredictable non-human factors mentioned above fit into this image. The thesis deals with these issues with the help of the actor-network theory, which assumes that a system of mutual relations consists of both human and non-human entities. It is interested in what relationships the entities of the Logarska dolina landscape park form in practice and how (if at all) these relationships are taken into account by the conservation regimes.
