Abstract

Title:Indications of prolonged coin usage in monetary circulation during the late antiquity
Abstract:
In the work, I discuss the question of the extended use of coins in late antique monetary circulation. For the study of money circulation in everyday use, money of lower value is the most suitable, so first I present the stages of "life" of late Roman bronze coins and valid denominations of this period. Then I turn to the question when a coin can be said to have circulated for a longer time period than expected. With the help of examples from abroad, I present ways of perceiving this phenomenon with the help of archaeological context, wear, modification and secondary use. I present the late antique money circulation in the area of today Slovenia and with the help of chosen high-altitude settlements and the closing wall of the Claustra Alpium Iuliarium, I also try to recognize the longer circulation of money.
