My master's degree thesis is a research regarding the field of gerotranscendence, education and learning in old age at chosen home for the elderly in Slovenia. The purpose of my research was to explore if the educational programs at home for the elderly follow the elements of gerotranscendence. We were trying to figure out if individual dimensions of gerotranscendence are present when learning and educating at chosen home for the elderly. We were interested in the educational programs coordinators’ point of view about working with elderly people and about integrating all three dimensions of gerotranscendence: the cosmic dimension, the self-dimension, and the social and personal relationship dimension.
The framework of my research is based on education in old age, elderly people, educational program coordinators and specifically education at the home for the elderly. The theoretical part presents and defines who are the elderly, their learning, education in old age and home for the elderly. This part also includes the theory of gerotranscendence based on which the empirical research was done. Empirical part includes results and interpretation of the research, which was followed by the chosen methodology; quantity paradigm, with the help of coordinators’ interviewes at the chosen home for the elderly. Thesis ends with my finding and conclusion. It was concluded that chosen home for the elderly follow some elements of gerotranscendence, but for some specific reasons (Human Resource Department, health, living space difficulties, ect.) the activities are not avalible to all individuals.
