Abstract
V tej diplomski nalogi smo pristopili k južnokorejski hrani skozi pregovore in idiome s ciljem po tem, da bi boljše razumeli, kakšna je komunkacijska vloga izbrane hrane (riževi kolački, soja in meso). Ideja se naslanja na trditev Rolanda Barthesa v Toward a Psychosociology of Contemporary Food Consumption (slovensko ‘k psihosociologiji sodobnega konzumiranja hrane’), da vsaka prehrambna entiteta opravlja funkcijo znaka v nekem sistemu komunikacije, ter na dejstvo, da so vsi pregovori in idiomi po naravi idiomatski, kar pomeni, da direktno obravnavajo simbolizem. Ugotovili smo, da v idiomih in pregovorih pogosteje najdemo osnovne prehrambne entitete (npr. soja in meso) kot tiste, ki so kompleksnejše (npr. bibimbap, korejski ramen in celo kimči), kar nas omeji pri naši raziskavi, saj so lahko prehrambne enitete dojete kot to, kar so, preden odigrajo vlogo hrane, kadar se ukvarjamo s tako preprostimi sestavinami (npr. soja je lahko tretirana kot rastlina). Poleg tega ni bilo redko, da so bile metafore bazirane na izgledu, strukturi ali teksturi prehrambnih entitet, namesto da bi bile bazirane na tem, kako so relevantne za Južnokorejce s kulturološkega stališča. Zaključimo, da analiza južnokorejske hrane skozi pregovore in idiome, ki vključujejo prehrambne entitete, ni najboljši prostop zaradi vseh razlogov, ki smo jih omenili zgoraj, in zaradi dejstva, da je bilo izbranim prehrambnim entitetam pripisano veliko število različnih pomenov.

Title:An insight into South Korean culture through South Korean proverbs and idioms that include foodstuff
Abstract:
In this dissertation we approach South Korean food through proverbs and idioms with the aim to better understand what the communicative roles of the selected foods (rice cake, soybeans and meat) are. The idea behind this leans on Roland Barthes’ claim in Toward the Psychosociology of Contemporary Food Consumption that all foodstuff functions as a sign in a system of communication, and on the fact that all proverbs and idioms are idiomatic in nature, therefore directly addressing the symbolism. We discover that there is a preference for proverbs and idioms to include basic foodstuff (e.g. soybeans and meat) over more complex dishes (e.g. bibimbap, ramyeon and even kimchi), which limits us in our research because when we deal with such basic ingredients, they can still be perceived as what they were before performing the function of food (soybeans, for example, can be treated as plants). Additionally, it was common for the metaphors to be based on the appearance, structure or consistency of foodstuff, rather than how they are culturally relevant for South Koreans. We come to the conclusion that the analysis of South Korean food through proverbs and idioms that include foodstuff is not the best approach for reasons mentioned above, as well as due to the fact that there is a broad variety of meanings associated with selected foodstuff.
