In my thesis, I study female characters in the novel Sense and Sensibility by English writer Jane Austen. I describe the life and works of Jane Austen and briefly present how and when her novels were written and published. Then I focus on her novel Sense and Sensibility. For easier understanding, I first summarize the content of the novel, and then focus on the main female characters. I describe how they are presented to the reader with the help of quotations from the novel. In addition to the novel itself, I also base my conclusions on my own perception of these characters, and various books and articles about Sense and Sensibility and its characters. In the last part of my thesis, I collected some reviews about Jane Austen and described what critics of her time and later centuries thought about her and her novels.
