Abstract
Vodotopni akrilatni kopolimeri so snovi, ki se pogosto uporabljajo na različnih področjih: med drugim v kozmetiki, zdravilih, gnojilih, v procesu desalinizacije vode in proizvodnje papirja. Uporabljajo se v velikih količinah, vendar njihov vpliv na okolje zaenkrat ni znan. Ker jih uvrščamo med plastiko in ne med kemikalije, niso vključeni v Evropske uredbo (npr. REACH), kar pomeni, da se ne preverja njihova ekotoksičnost in vpliv na okolje. V okviru diplomske naloge smo raziskali vpliv akrilatnega kopolimera na malo vodno lečo Lemna minor. Določali smo vpliv te snovi na rast in na vsebnost fotosintetskih pigmentov. Ugotovili smo, da testirani akrilatni kopolimer negativno vpliva na malo vodno lečo. Opazili smo vpliv na hitrost rasti rastline ter na vsebnost klorofila a. Ker so se ti vplivi pokazali že pri zelo nizkih koncentracijah, menimo, da je testiranje ekotoksičnosti vodotopnih polimerov potrebno za oceno njihove nevarnosti za okolje.

Title:Ecotoxicity assessment of acrylates copolymer used in cosmetics
Abstract:
Water-soluble acrylates copolymers are widely used in many different areas: among others in cosmetics, pharmaceutics, fertilizers, in the process of water desalination, and paper production. They are used in large quantities, but their impact on the environment is still unknown. Because they are classified as plastics and not as chemicals, they are not included in the European regulation (e.g. REACH), therefore, their ecotoxicity and impact on the environment are not investigated and regulated. In this thesis, we investigated the effect of a water-soluble acrylates copolymer on a duckweed Lemna minor. The effects on plant growth and contents of photosynthetic pigments were investigated. The results showed that tested acrylates copolymer negatively affects duckweed. We observed the effect on plant growth rate and contents of chlorophyll a. Since the effects were detected at very low concentrations, it is important to evaluate the ecotoxicity of water-soluble polymers and to evaluate their environmental risks.
