Abstract

Title:Optimization of the flexible joint and installation of a guard against accidental opening on the flip top cap
Abstract:
Every day there are new requirements in the market of the plastic packaging industry. Nowadays products should be made of mono-material and should be tamper evident. In the master's thesis, we adapted an existing product. We redesigned flip top cap with installation of different living hinges to find the most optimal shape and added a tamper evident band. We have produced the caps made of polyethylene with an injection molding process, tested the strength and resistance of the living hinge to bending and rotation, and concluded that some additional optimization will be required for a completely reliable and acceptable product. We also found that with computational analysis we would probably achieve optimal product in fewer iterations.
